The Mona Lisa Was Stolen?!

Did you know the Mona Lisa had been stolen?

Vincenzo Peruggia, the man behind the theft, strolled into the Louvre in the morning of the 21 August 1911. As he was a former employee of the Louvre, and designed the glass case the Mona Lisa was kept in, robbing it was a piece of cake for him. When he saw no one was near the Mona Lisa, Vincenzo seized the opportunity and took the painting, and the rest is history.

For the next 2 years, people tirelessly searched for the Mona Lisa but it was stored in a box in Vincenzo Peruggia’s apartment, who brought the painting back to Florence, Italy as he wanted to return the painting to its homeland.

However, Vincenzo grew impatient, and decided to contact a man named Mario Fratelli, an owner of an art gallery. Vincenzo expected a handsome compensation, but instead, Mario contacted authorities and Vincenzo was arrested.
