The artist went to Miami to launch the helium balloon during the Art4Space Project, which saw Invader’s first mosaic sent to space. Apart from the Art4Space Project, Invader also invaded the city with his mosaics. Introducing the Invasion of Miami: The Three Invasion Waves in 2010 and 2012.
The First Wave
The group exhibition Urban Alchemists, which was part of the 2010 expansion of the Wynwood Walls project, took place in early 2010. Invader took part in the exhibition, and he also made two permanent murals during his stay, one of which was painted by Invader on the exterior wall of the building in which the exhibition took place.

Invader took advantage of his stay in the city and installed a few mosaics. The artist embarked on the first wave invasion of Miami, where he installed 28 mosaics.

During his first invasion, Invader began to prepare a new Invasion Guide and an Invasion Map documenting the first wave invasion of the city. Both were later released in 2012 during the second wave invasion. As a side note, many of the mosaics placed in the town were beach-themed, and the majority of the cover art for the Invasion Guide of Miami was a replica of the mosaics installed on the streets.
The Second Wave
In 2012, Invader returned to Miami for the Art4Space Project. The Art4Space project is where Invader sends, or as Invader likes to say, returns his first mosaic to space by using a helium balloon. However, due to the unexpected conditions of the balloon and bad weather, Invader’s Space project had to be delayed for days.
Therefore, while Invader and his team waited for the weather to improve, Invader decided to invade the streets of Miami. For some unknown reason, many of the pieces ended up at the airport. The total number of Space Invaders in Miami was then increased to 72, with 44 mosaics added to the city during the second wave invasion.
The style of the new mosaics evolved from the previous, with some referencing the invasion of space. For instance, MIA_62 is a replica of the SPACE_01 mosaic.

At the end of the year of 2012, during Invader's participation in the contemporary art fair in Miami, he once again invaded the city with 13 more mosaics, bringing the total number of mosaics up to 85. However, we could not figure out which exact art fair Invader participated in. We suspect that it was the PULSE-Miami 2012, a leading art fair dedicated to international contemporary art, held from the 6th to the 9th of December. This matches the time frame of Invader’s installations. In addition, Jonathan LeVine Gallery’s program for PULSE-Miami 2012 was a solo presentation of Invader’s work, including his invasion of Miami and operation Art4Space. The third wave of invasion was sadly not mentioned in the Invasion Map, and probably not in the Invasion Guide as well. Additionally, only 3 mosaics of the 13 were not destroyed in this third wave invasion.
