French Riviera: Invader’s Captivating Beach Invasion Project

French street artist Invader turns urban landscapes into pixelated mosaics. He calls these art pieces invasions and invades cities worldwide, capturing the imagination of passersby. But Invader doesn't just stick to walls. In a bold and unexpected move, he took it to the next level and invaded the beaches along the French Riviera. This audacious “beach invasion” brought his art to life in a breathtaking new way, proving that his creativity knows no bounds.

The Beach Invasion

On August 21st, 2021, all the beaches of the French Riviera between Marseille and Cannes were invaded. Whenever anyone looked up at the blue sky that day, they would have saw Invader’s Beach Invasion project, a black banner with three different white Space Invaders flying across the sky.

Invader did this by hiring a light aircraft to display flags adorned with his original iconic characters while flying along the coast.

The Competition

On that day, if anyone managed to spot the Beach Invasion, they could enter a competition. All they had to do was snap a video or photo of the flag and then post it on Instagram with the tags @invaderwashere and #beachinvasion. The three best images would win a signed copy of Invader’s latest book. Invader didn’t specify which book they would win, but we believe it was the Exhibition CatalogPrints on Paper.

In the end, Invader chose 6 winners instead of 3 for the competition.
