Since Invader’s first public announcement of the Invasion of Basque on Instagram on November 12th, Invader has officially finished his invasion, wrapping it up with 60 mosaics scattered in the region. The first piece was discovered on the 9th. After seven days, Invader finished his Global Space Invasion in Basque. In this blog, we explore the mosaics from BAB_15 to BAB_23, all located near each other in Bayonne.
The Collection
BAB_15
The mosaic BAB_15, located above the street sign of Rue Sabaterie, depicts a red invader with white eyes as the message “I Invade BAB”. The background of the piece is green with 4 black dots on the corners, symbolizing nails that make it look like a sign put on the side of the wall.
BAB_16
BAB_16, placed above the Boulevard Rempart Lachepailet street sign, depicts a white invader with a half-red half-green background with a shiny picture frame enclosing the piece, possibly referencing the cathedral in the background.
BAB_17
Under the Place Pasteur sign, BAB_17 is a white invader in a red outline. Beside it is a flag from the Aviron Bayonnais, a Rugby union team from the Bayonne.
BAB_18
BAB_18 depicts a blue invader with black outline and red eyes. To the left, there is a clenched fist with a red wristband, paying tribute to the Fêtes de Bayonne, a major festival in the city where participants traditionally wear white clothing with red accents.
BAB_19
BAB_19 is a poster-like mosaic placed near the sign of Passage des Cacolets promoting Rock N’ Roll in 2024. In reference to Basque Radical Rock, the piece fosters an iconic piece of Basque culture, a musical genre that began in the Southern Basque Country around the early 1980s with a faded prevalence in the recent years.
BAB_20
BAB_20 is above the Rue Port-de-Castets sign, depicting a ghost from Pac-man. It is the classic character, with the color blanc as its body, walking on a patch of green.
BAB_21
On top of the Rue des Cordeliers street sign, BAB_21 depict a green and black spotted FlashInvader running to its left. Unfortunately, this mosaic was destroyed.
BAB_22
Located at the intersection of Rue Marsan and Quai des Corsaires, BAB_22 is a white invader in a crest-shaped mosaic with green and red stripes, seemingly blending itself as a flag.
BAB_23
BAB_23 depicts a string of mini Invader flags in the colors of green and red, being a nice decoration on the side of a building in this high-class location.
