On the 13th of June, Invader surprised everyone with an Instagram post. It featured a note, alluding to the fact that a new was under invasion. A while later, there was an update on the official website, and a new post revealed that the invaded city was Amiens. In this blog, we will cover all 16 mosaics featured in the first wave invasion of Amiens.
The Mosaics
AMI_01
AMI_01 is the first mosaic of the city. Being a relatively large mosaic, it features a white body and a black shadow to the right with a brick background.
AMI_02
Located at the Cultural Center of Amiens, AMI_02 depicts two identical Space Invaders rushing towards the left.
AMI_03
AMI_03 is placed above an insurance store, depicting a red-eyed Space Invader alongside an apple. What’s interesting about this mosaic is that the color of the fruit and the color of the eyes are both red, which is also featured on the flag of Amiens. This may be why Invader picked red for this mosaic.
AMI_04
Following on is AMI_04. The three-piece mosaic features a rockstar hand gesture at the top, a heart in the middle, and yet another Space Invader with red eyes at the bottom. The hand sign on top is probably a reference to the rock culture in France.
AMI_05
AMI_05 is installed in the Parc Saint-Pierre city park near one of the water features, illustrating a Space Invader in monochrome with shades of gray veering off to the left
AMI_06
Above the blue Rue des Coches road sign is AMI_06. This mosaic features Mario and a small Flashinvaders-inspired red Space Invader in the top left corner.
AMI_07
AMI_07 is a Bat-Invader placed on top of the Abbeville Gate, a name which Invader likes to use. This mosaic could be accessed with the footbridge below.
AMI_08
The Kiss Rock Band is referenced in AMI_08 with a small Invader sneaked in the bottom of the piece.
AMI_09 & AMI_10
The consecutive mosaics, AMI_09 and AMI_10, are placed side by side above a clothing store, with what seems to be an unidentified structure of a Space Invader.
AMI_11
AMI_11 is placed on a building close to the catholic Amiens Cathedral, depicting a framed white Space Invader in front of a red background.
AMI_12
Above a live music venue named La Lune des Pirates is AMI_12. The mosaic depicts a pirate flag made with ceramic tiles, which pays tribute to the name of the music venue below.
AMI_13
AMI_13 is installed on top of the road sign of Rue du Don, portraying a red Space Invader looking down at the passerby.
AMI_14
Similarly, AMI_14 is another red Space Invader, this time above a 2025 sign made of mosaic tiles.
AMI_15
Next to the sign of a coffee shop lies AMI_15. This mosaic depicts a white Invader beside a cup of hot coffee.
AMI_16
The last piece of the invasion, AMI_16, depicts a poster-like mosaic with the words ‘Amiens’ and ‘Tour Perret’. The mosaic depicts a 29-storey residential skyscraper, Tour Perret, in front of a red wallpaper with small white Invaders.
