Invasion of Orléans: First 6 mosaics of the Invasion
Read More
Invader’s Global Space Invasion continues; this time, it is to Orléans in France. Currently (28 March), there are 12 mosaics in the city. In this blog, we will dive into ORLN_01 to ORLN_06.
Orléans
Orléans is a north-central city of France that follows the River Loire, and is also the capital of Loiret department and the Centre-Val de Loire region. Orléans has a rich history, most notably the siege of Orléans, which marked a turning point for the French in the Hundred Years' War. In addition, the city is a blend of medieval and Renaissance architecture, with some of its most notable sights being the Saint Croix-patronized Orléans Cathedral and the historic Place du Martroi. With festivals, museums, and markets, the city boasts a vibrant cultural life.
It is promising how Invader can make use of the city’s unique characteristics and rich culture to incorporate them into his works. Bear in mind that a lot of the images are taken in the nighttime when the artist works have insufficient lighting, resulting in either distorted mosaics or uncounted for colored variations.
The Mosaics
ORLN_01
Located above a chain smartphone repair store, the first mosaic placed in the city depicts a normal-looking Space Invader in a swirly pattern of blue with several reflective tiles used in the mix.
ORLN_02
Above an eyeglass shop lies ORLN02, another Invader with blue as the theme color. Note that the border and the eyes of the mosaic use the reflective material just like ORLN_01.
ORLN_03
Located on the second story of a building for a creative studio, the third mosaic once again features the reflective element used previously. As a side note, it looks blue because it is reflecting the azure sky.
ORLN_04
This mosaic is an exact replica of ORLN_03, except for the fact that it is a laterally-inverted version of the previous mosaic. The similarities include the camo-colored background and the overall design.
ORLN_05
Yet another slightly reflective mosaic, the brown tinted ORLN_05 is placed on a concrete wall above a road sign. Unfortunately, the road sign is either covered up by the trees in the image or has been removed.
ORLN_06
ORLN_06 is a horizontally inverted concept of the previous mosaic ORLN_05, which we suspect replicates the use of medium, though the colors of the piece may suggest otherwise. The mosaic is placed on the side of a building with a restaurant below, so customers can enjoy the scenery along with the mosaic.
